Global Health is a topic of increased political and public interest. One reason is that disease outbreaks, such as the Ebola crisis few years ago in West Africa and again recently in the Democratic Republic of Congo, have attracted international attention.
Kick-off: New German Global Health Strategy
6 June 2018
To further shape Germany’s international leadership in this area, the Federal Government will develop a new Global Health Strategy. The Federal Ministry of Health (Bundesministerium für Gesundheit – BMG) is leading this process, working in close partnership with other relevant ministries. Actors from different sectors of the German society are invited to participate.
The development process began on Wednesday, 6th June 2018, when the Federal Ministry of Health hosted an official launching event. Lutz Stroppe, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, welcomed 145 participants to the kick-off meeting at the GIZ in Berlin, amongst them representatives of academia, civil society, the private sector and youth. The GHP was invited to accompany the process in behalf of the actors from the private sector. Dr Alois Dörlemann, GHP Speaker Sub-Saharan Africa moderated one of the Workshops at the kick-off event about the German Global Health Strategy (picture).
The coordinators facilitating this process for each of the groups – representing civil society, think tanks, private sector, academia and youth – will present the position papers in early September 2018 .
