The 36th German-Brazilian Economic Meeting took place from 24th to 26th June in Cologne, with active participation of the German Healthcare Partnership (GHP). Every year, this meeting is organized jointly by the Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie (BDI) and its Brazilian counterpart, Confederação Brasileira da Indústria (CBI).
Similar to recent years, GHP organized the healthcare panel entitled “Opportunities for Cooperation in the Medical and Pharmaceutical Sectors”. Participants included representatives of major companies and organizations in the sector, namely Theo van der Loo (President, Bayer do Brasil), Armando Correa Lopes Jr. (Country Head Brazil, Siemens Healthineers), Jefferson Oliveira Gomes (Regional Director SENAI Santa Catarina), and Dr. Berit Hamer (Director International Cooperation, Otto Bock Health Care). The session was moderated by the GHP speaker for Brazil, Dr. Jörg Heukelbach.
The focus of this year’s vivid discussions has been on the demographic transition in Brazil and worldwide, leading to new opportunities and challenges in the rehabilitation and medical device sectors; on the developments for less bureaucratic registration procedures mainly for medical devices, and approaches to tackle this challenge; and on the rapidly increasing demand for digitalization and IT solutions in healthcare, considering its potential for companies from both countries seeking mutual cooperation.
The next German-Brazilian Economic Meeting will take place in October 2019 in Natal/Brazil.
